Role Overview: Climate Director (Remote)

The Climate Director will lead PESP’s Climate Team and oversee all research, strategy, and campaign efforts focused on private equity’s climate impact.

This role blends:

Core Responsibilities

1. Climate Accountability & Environmental Justice Leadership

• Lead PESP’s corporate accountability work in the energy and fossil fuel sectors

• Identify pathways for systemic reform in private equity investment practices

• Center environmental justice and frontline community voices

2. Team Leadership & Management

• Supervise and mentor multiple research and campaign staff

• Strengthen internal research, advocacy, and data capacity

• Support professional growth and skill development

3. Research Oversight & Data Strategy

You will oversee sophisticated research initiatives, including:

• Managing multi-staff research workflows

• Developing and maintaining datasets on private equity energy investments

• Analyzing environmental and climate impact data

• Producing high-impact public reports for investors, policymakers, and advocates

• Collaborating across organizations on shared data systems

4. Campaign Strategy & Public Engagement

• Design and execute strategic campaigns targeting private asset managers

• Set campaign priorities and action plans

• Coordinate with communications and design teams

• Edit reports for legal accuracy and strategic clarity

• Engage with media, policymakers, investors, unions, and grassroots groups

5. Coalition & Relationship Building

• Build partnerships with:

  • Environmental justice organizations

  • Frontline community groups

  • ESG-focused institutional investors

  • Climate and accountability coalitions

• Translate complex financial research into compelling, accessible narratives

6. Travel & Organizational Reporting

• Report directly to the Executive Director

• Participate in occasional travel for coalition meetings, campaigns, and stakeholder engagement

Required Experience & Qualifications

PESP is seeking senior-level candidates with:

1. Professional Experience

• 10+ years in strategic research and/or advocacy campaigning

• Proven leadership experience managing teams

• Demonstrated success in environmental justice or climate campaigns

• Experience developing and executing campaign strategies

2. Technical & Data Skills

Hands-on experience with:

• Large datasets and data analysis

• Airtable or SQL (data management)

• R or Python (analysis)

• Data visualization tools

3. Communication & Advocacy

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

• Experience engaging:

  • Investors

  • Policymakers

  • Media

  • Labor unions

  • Community-based organizations

Salary, Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range:
$105,000 – $120,000 USD, based on experience
