The Stockholm Institute of Transition Economics (SITE), based at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), is inviting applications for a Research Assistant / Pre-Doctoral Fellow position. About the Position

The Research Assistant / Pre-Doctoral Fellow will join SITE full-time (part-time options available for students completing their master’s degree). This role is designed for early-career economists aiming to develop advanced research skills before applying to PhD programs in economics.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collect, clean, and analyze datasets for ongoing research projects
  • Conduct empirical work using tools such as Stata, R, Python, SQL, or Julia
  • Support faculty with literature reviews and research summaries
  • Assist in drafting policy briefs, reports, and research materials
  • Contribute to data visualization and technical documentation

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics (completed)
  • Strong quantitative and data skills
  • Proficiency in Stata, R, Python, SQL, Julia, or LaTeX
  • Excellent written and oral English
  • Eligibility to work in Sweden and availability to reside in Sweden during employment

Preferred

  • Master’s degree (completed or ongoing)
  • Experience as a research assistant
  • Knowledge of Swedish, Ukrainian, Russian, or other Slavic languages
  • Demonstrated interest in academic research and policy analysis
