The Organization for Autism Research (OAR) is now accepting applications for its 2026 Applied Research Competition. This annual grant supports projects that produce practical, real-world solutions for the autism community, including families, educators, and self-advocates.

Grant Details

  • Funding Amount: Up to $50,000 per project

  • Duration: 1–2 years

  • Eligibility: Researchers focused on applied autism research

  • Focus: Projects that address immediate needs and improve outcomes for individuals on the autism spectrum

How Applications Are Reviewed

The selection process is rigorous and involves:

  1. Letter of Intent (LOI) – Initial eligibility and quality screening

  2. Full Proposal – By invitation, for shortlisted LOIs

  3. Final Review & Selection – Recommendations from OAR’s Scientific Council and approval by the Board of Directors

The Scientific Council includes experts and stakeholders from the autism community, ensuring research aligns with community priorities.

  • December 5, 2025 – Application period opens

  • March 16, 2026 (11:59 PM ET) – Letters of Intent due

  • May 2026 – Full proposal invitations begin (by invitation only)

  • July 13, 2026 (11:59 PM ET) – Full proposal applications due

  • December 2026 – Winners announced

  • January 1, 2027 – Grant period begins
