The Aspire Leaders Program is a highly regarded, fully funded, online leadership development program for first-generation and limited-income university students and recent graduates aged 18–29 from around the world.

The program is designed to be flexible and manageable alongside academic, professional, and personal commitments. It offers a structured and interactive leadership journey built on high-quality training, mentorship, and peer learning. Program content is developed and delivered in collaboration with Harvard University faculty and educators from leading global institutions. All program activities are conducted in English.

Applications for Cohort 2 of the 2026 Aspire Leaders Program are currently open.

Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and complete the approximately 10-minute application are automatically accepted into the program.

Aspire Leaders Program Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for the Aspire Leaders Program, applicants must meet all of the following requirements:

  • Age: 18–29 years old

  • Background:

    • From a limited-income background, or

    • First-generation to attend university (neither parent or primary caregiver completed a bachelor’s degree)

  • Education:

    • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate university program, or

    • A recent university graduate

Aspire uses a flexible, context-sensitive definition of limited income, recognising that economic disadvantage varies across regions. Applicants self-identify based on their lived circumstances.

Aspire Leaders Program Structure and Learning Journey

The Aspire Leaders Program is delivered fully online and combines self-paced learning with live interactive sessions. Participants engage with a diverse global cohort while developing practical leadership and professional skills.

Module 1: Personal and Professional Development (Approximately 3 Weeks)

This module focuses on foundational leadership and career readiness skills, including:

  • Strengths-based leadership assessment

  • Professional development resources co-created with Harvard Business School

  • LinkedIn profile development and optimisation

  • CV and résumé writing support

  • Interview preparation and networking strategies

  • Live peer interactions with participants from around the world

Module 2: Aspire Horizons Leadership Course (Approximately 5 Weeks)

This flagship leadership course is designed and delivered by Harvard University faculty and covers the following themes:

  • Understanding yourself as a leader

  • The importance of context and building trust

  • Digital transformation and artificial intelligence

  • Analysing community challenges

  • Taking action in local and global contexts

Participants who successfully complete Module 2 receive a free certificate of completion.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Aspire Leaders Program part of Harvard University?
No. Aspire Institute is an independent non-profit organisation. Although founded at Harvard University in 2017, it became independent in 2021.

How much does the program cost?
The program is completely free. Beginning in 2026, participants may optionally purchase a low-cost credential bundle that includes:

  • A verifiable digital certificate

  • A personalised letter of recognition

Is the program fully online?
Yes. Participants can join from anywhere with reliable internet access.

Are English test scores required?
No. IELTS, TOEFL, or other English test scores are not required. An intermediate level of English is recommended.
