The European Forum Alpbach Scholarship Programme 2026 is now open for applications, offering a fully funded opportunity for students, young professionals, and emerging leaders from around the world to participate in one of Europe’s most prestigious interdisciplinary forums. Held annually in the Austrian Alps, the European Forum Alpbach (EFA) brings together future changemakers, policymakers, researchers, and innovators to exchange ideas, build leadership skills, and shape solutions for Europe and the world.

This scholarship programme is designed for first-time participants who want to gain international exposure, expand their networks, and engage in high-level dialogue across sectors.

About the European Forum Alpbach Scholarship Programme

Every year, hundreds of young talents travel to Alpbach to take part in a unique two-week experience that combines academic learning, policy dialogue, and cross-cultural exchange. Scholarship holders are at the heart of the Forum and are the only participants who remain for the full duration of the event.

The programme includes:

• Scientific, competence-based, and artistic seminars and studios

• High-level conferences with global decision-makers and experts

• Leadership and skills development sessions

• Interdisciplinary discussions and networking opportunities

• Social and cultural activities designed to foster collaboration

Approximately 350 scholarships are awarded annually by the European Forum Alpbach and the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN).

How to Apply for the EFA Scholarship Programme

Applicants can submit their applications through two pathways depending on their regional affiliation.

Applications will be open from 2-22 March 2026

Application via the Forum Alpbach Network (FAN)

Applicants with nationality or residency ties to specific FAN clubs must apply through their respective alumni club.

FAN clubs with separate scholarship selection processes include:

These are the FAN clubs who offer EFA-scholarships and have a separate selection process: CA Burgenland, CA Liechtenstein, CA Niederösterreich, CA Poland, CA Upper Austria, CA Salzburg, CA Senza Confini (Carinthia, Northern Italy and Slovenia), CA Steiermark, CA Südtirol Alto Adige, CA Tirol, CA Vorarlberg, IG Wien.

Applicants should consult the relevant FAN club website for detailed requirements and deadlines.

Application via the European Forum Alpbach (EFA)

If there is no FAN club in your country, or your local club does not have its own selection process, you may apply directly via the EFA online application platform.

Important application rules:

• The scholarship is open to international applicants worldwide, with a special focus on Europe outside Austria

• Applications must be submitted through the official online portal

• Incomplete applications will not be accepted

• Applications submitted by email will not be considered

• Missing documents submitted after the deadline will not be reviewed

Special note: Nationals or permanent residents of ROC Taiwan must apply via the Lung Yingtai Cultural Foundation.

Documents Required for the Application

Applicants should prepare all required documents before beginning the application process. Ensuring completeness and accuracy is essential, as incomplete applications may be automatically rejected.

Disqualification Policy and Use of AI

The organisers clearly state that applications may be disqualified if:

• Minimum eligibility criteria are not met

• The letter of motivation is generated using artificial intelligence

Applicants are encouraged to submit authentic and original application materials.
